The Meaning of Salaat upon Rasulullah صلي الله عليه وسلم:
Salaat actually refers to special mercies of Allah Ta’ala (rahmah khaassah) which are personal and individual, not general.
When Allaah Ta’ala sends salaat upon Rasulullaah صلي الله عليه وسلم, it comprises of the following aspects:
– Continuously showering down His mercy, blessings and favours upon Rasulullaah صلي الله عليه وسلم.
– Praising Rasulullaah صلي الله عليه وسلم (before the angels).
– Raising the remembrance of Rasulullaah صلي الله عليه وسلم and spreading his honour amongst the creation.
– Continuously elevating the status and rank of Rasulullaah till he will finally attain the rank of Waseelah and Al-Maqaam al Mahmood.
– Continuously showering love and affection to Rasulullaah صلي الله عليه وسلم.
The meaning of Salaam upon Rasulullah صلي الله عليه وسلم:
Salaam is actually a greeting or salutation. However, it is actually a form of duaa for the one who it is addressed to. By sending or conveying salaam to Rasulullaah, we are actually making the following duaa for him:
May you be kept by Allah Ta’ala in salaamah – safe from all defects, harms, difficulties and calamities.
