Ulama have mentioned a saying in Arabic:
مَنْ عَرَفَ نَفْسَهُ فَقَدْ عَرَفَ رَبَّهُ
“He who recognises his Nafs (inner-self), then he has recognised his Rabb.”
It is very important for one to realise that ones greatest enemy in this world is his own Nafs. Shaitaan has openly declared himself as our enemy. However, when it comes to the Nafs, it is very stealthy and sly. Therefore, that person who recognises his Nafs, will be able to oppose it, thereby obeying Allah Ta’ala and securing his success in the Hereafter.
